Materials Needed:

Main Body:

Row 1 (Structural Row): CH 12. In the 3rd CH from the hook, work 2 DC. CH 1, SK 2 foundation CH, 1 DC in the next CH. CH 1, SK 2 foundation CH, 2 DC in the next CH. CH 1, SK 2 foundation CH, 1 DC in the last foundation CH. Turn.

Row 2 (First CROC Row): SK the 1st DC. Working around the post of the 1st DC of the first 2DC set, work 5 DC from top to bottom. Rotate the piece and work 5 DC around the post of the 2nd DC (One CROC stitch made). SL ST on top of the single DC. Continue with the crocodile stitch around the next 2DC set. CH 1.

Row 3 (Structural Row): With WS facing, work 2 DC around the post of the last DC from the previous row. CH 1, 1 DC in the center of the CROC stitch, CH 1. 2 DC in the SL ST, CH 1. Continue this pattern across the row. Turn.

Row 4 (CROC Row): CROC stitch in the first 2DC set. SL ST into the single DC and continue with the crocodile stitch across the row.

Continue: Repeat Rows 3-4 to build your owl body, alternating between structural rows and crocodile stitch rows. Repeat this until you reach Row 16, with the odd-numbered rows being structural and even-numbered rows being CROC rows.

Row 17 (Structural Row): With WS facing you, SL ST across the first CROC stitch and end at the first SL ST of the previous row. CH 3 (counts as DC) and 1 DC in the SL ST. Continue as previous rows.

Row 18 (CROC Row): Repeat Row 4.

Row 19 (Final Structural Row): SC along the top edge, ending with 20 SC total. Tie off.

Head:

Attach the brown yarn to the first SC of Row 19.

  • Rows 1-4: HDC across. CH 1. Turn.
  • Row 5: 2 HDC in the first HDC, 1 HDC in the next 18 HDC, and 2 HDC in the last HDC. Tie off, leaving a long tail.
  • Using the yarn needle, weave the tail through the tops of the first 11 HDC. Pull tight to create the owl’s head, forming a triangular shape. Tie off securely at the back.

Eyes:

Make two eyes using white yarn.

  • Round 1: Magic ring. CH 2, work 8 HDC into the ring. Join with a SL ST to the first HDC.
  • Round 2: CH 2, 2 HDC in each HDC around. Join with a SL ST to the first HDC.
  • Round 3: CH 2, 2 HDC in the first HDC, 1 HDC in the next HDC, repeat from * around. Join with a SL ST to the first HDC. Tie off and leave a long tail to sew the eyes onto the owl’s head.
  • Hot glue buttons to the center of the eyes.

Beak:

For the beak, use light brown or orange yarn.

  • CH 6. SC in the second CH from the hook, HDC in the next CH, DC in the next CH, TR in the next CH, and DTR in the last CH. Tie off, leaving a tail to sew the beak onto the owl’s head.

Finishing:
