✨ Part 1 – Large Star
-
Magic Ring: Begin with a magic ring and CH 1.
Make 15 SC into the ring. Close with a SL ST into the first SC. -
Form the Points:
CH 5, then make 1 DTR into the same stitch.
CH 3, make 2 DTR into the same stitch again.
Skip 2 stitches, and in the 3rd make:
(2 DTR, CH 3, 2 DTR) — repeat this pattern five times total to create five points. -
Next Round:
In the space between the two DTR groups, make SL ST, then CH 4.
Into each CH-3 space work:
2 DTR, CH 3, 2 DTR, then DC between point groups.
Continue around the star, joining with a SL ST to the top of the starting CH. -
Continue Increasing:
Repeat the previous step for 9 rounds total, each time increasing the chain arches and DTR groups to make the points longer.
You should now have a large star approximately 27 cm (10.6 inches) across. -
Final Edge:
For the border, make 12 CH, then SC along each side, with 3 SC + CH 3 + 3 SC at the tip of each point to shape the edges.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
✨ Part 2 – Medium Star
-
With red cotton, start again with a magic ring.
CH 1 and make 15 SC. Close with SL ST. -
CH 3, in the same stitch work:
1 DC, 1 TR, CH 3, 1 TR, 1 DC – all in the same stitch.
CH 3, SC in the next stitch, SC again in the next (stitch forms the base for the next petal). -
Repeat the petal pattern around the circle:
(CH 3, DC, TR, CH 3, TR, DC, CH 3, 2 SC) until you have five petals.
Close with a SL ST. -
Next Rounds:
CH 6, DC in the center of the petal ( in the CH-3 space ), CH 3, DC in the same space, CH 5, SC between petals.
Repeat around.
Continue this pattern for 7 rounds, adding extra CH and DC rows to extend the points. -
Final Round:
Replace arches with 6 SC each and work ( 3 SC, CH 3, 3 SC ) at each point for a defined edge.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
✨ Part 3 – Small Center Star
Make the same pattern as Part 2 but use white cotton and only five rounds instead of seven.
You’ll get a smaller flower-shaped star to place in the center of the design.
🩵 Blocking and Assembly
-
Place each star on a piece of styrofoam or cardboard.
-
Mix half glue (Vinavil) and half water.
Use a brush (or your fingers!) to apply it over each piece. -
Stretch each point evenly and secure with pins.
Allow to dry completely until the glue turns transparent. -
Once dry, use hot glue to assemble the layers:
