Hearts Square Pattern

Materials

To make one Hearts Square, you’ll need:

  • 4-ply worsted weight acrylic yarn

    • Pink

    • White

  • Crochet hook size J (6.0 mm)

Note: I tend to crochet tightly, so feel free to adjust your hook size if your tension is looser.

Finished Size After Rnd 5, the square measures about 5 3/4″. You can continue adding more rounds to make it larger if desired.

Pattern Instructions

Center of the Square:

Rnd 1:
With pink, ch 4, 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 2.
(3 dc, ch 2, in same ch) 3 more times.
Join with a sl st to top of beginning ch.

Rnds 2 – 3:
Ch 3, dc in each dc around with (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each corner ch-2 space.
For Rnd 2, join with a sl st to top of beginning ch 3.
For Rnd 3, join with a sl st to back loop only of top of beginning ch 3. End off.

Adding the White Rounds:

Rnd 4:
Join white with a sl st to any corner space.
(Ch 3, 1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same space.
Dc in back loops only across each side.
Work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each corner space.
Join with a sl st to top of beginning ch 3.

Rnd 5:
Ch 3, dc in each dc around, with (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each corner space.
Join as before.

Crocheting the Heart Tops

To create the heart detail, you’ll work into the front loops from Rnd 3.

  1. Join pink with a sl st to the first front loop on one side of Rnd 3.

  2. Skip next front loop, 3 dc in each of the next 2 front loops, skip next front loop, sl st in next front loop.

  3. Repeat from * one more time to complete the heart shape.

  4. End off.

Repeat for the remaining 3 sides of the square.
